Why We Celebrate Young Business Owners

Young entrepreneurs are doing more than just earning extra lunch money. They are solving real problems and learning skills that schools don't always teach. When a child starts a business, they are:

  • Thinking outside the box to find new solutions.

  • Learning "Grit" by building something from nothing.

  • Mastering Money: Understanding profit, marketing, and costs.

  • Helping Others: Many kid-run businesses donate a portion of their sales to local charities.

Meet a "Shark Tank" Legend: Mo’s Bows

You might wonder: who is the most successful young entrepreneur? While there are many, Moziah Bridges is a name you should know. At just 9 years old, he started Mo’s Bows. He loved fashion but couldn't find the perfect bow tie, so he made his own!

His business grew so much that he ended up on the show Shark Tank and even signed a deal with the NBA. Moziah’s story teaches us three simple lessons:

  1. Start with what you love: He turned a hobby into a career.

  2. Don’t give up: He practiced until his sewing was perfect.

  3. Find a mentor: He learned from his grandmother and later from professional investors.

How Your Child Can Follow in These Footsteps

Reading about success is fun, but how do you actually start? Here are a few tips for our Brevard families:

  • Find the "Spark": What does your child enjoy? Whether it’s baking, coding, or making jewelry, that’s where the business starts.

  • Keep it Simple: You don’t need a giant loan. Start with a small batch of products and see what people think.

  • Ask for Input: Encourage your kids to talk to neighbors or friends about their ideas.

Join the Community at the Brevard Children's Business Fair

The best way to jumpstart this journey is to join a community that "gets it." The Brevard Children's Business Fair is designed specifically for kids ages 6 to 17. It’s a one-day market where they can launch their very own brand, talk to real customers, and even win prizes!

Being part of the fair helps kids build massive confidence. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of making your first sale to a customer who truly loves your product.

One of the best parts of the Brevard Children’s Business Fair is watching our young CEOs grow and evolve every year. While our "Master List" of 100+ ideas is a classic resource, we know some kids are looking for a brand-new spark to grab the attention of families strolling through the fair.

Choosing the right business fair ideas is the first big step for our kid entrepreneurs. We want to keep things fresh, fun, and simple for our vendors. Here are five brand-new, electricity-free ideas that are perfect for a sunny day in Brevard County. Every one of these is designed to be 100% handmade by your child!

1. The "Hydration Station" Charm Bar

Everyone in Florida carries a reusable water bottle! Personalized "bottle jewelry" is a massive trend right now.

  • The Idea: Hand-braided paracord handles and custom-beaded charms that clip onto the lid of a water bottle.

  • Why it Works: It’s highly visual and allows kids to customize something they already use every single day at school or sports.

2. "Sun-Print" Nature Art Kits

Since we live in the Sunshine State, why not use the sun as a business partner?

  • The Idea: Create "ready-to-go" kits with Cyanotype (sun-print) paper and locally pressed Florida ferns or flowers collected by your child.

  • Why it Works: It’s a science experiment and an art project in one! Families love a "take-home" activity that keeps the kids busy after the fair is over.

3. Hand-Pressed "Pocket Hugs"

In a world of screens, something small and tactile really stands out.

  • The Idea: Small, hand-painted clay tokens or smooth "worry stones" etched with a heart or a smiley face. They come attached to a cute card that says, "A little hug for your pocket!"

  • Why it Works: These are the perfect "impulse buy." They are inexpensive to make, easy to display, and make wonderful gifts for friends and family.

4. "Local Explorer" Adventure Maps

Brevard is full of hidden gems, from the Enchanted Forest to the Cocoa Beach Pier.

  • The Idea: A kid-designed, hand-drawn "Passport" or map of the best kid-friendly spots in Brevard. Your child can illustrate the map and include hand-stamped "check-off" pages for each location visited.

  • Why it Works: It positions your child as a local expert! Parents are always looking for new weekend ideas, and this is a creative, useful product that celebrates our home.

5. Custom Beaded Collar Charms

Since we have so many dogs joining their families at the fair, let's cater to the pet lovers with some "pet jewelry!"

  • The Idea: Using sturdy jewelry wire and colorful beads, kids can create "charms" that clip securely onto a dog's collar. They can even add alphabet beads to spell the pet's name.

  • Why it Works: It’s a safe, lightweight accessory that adds a pop of personality to any pet. It’s a fun, stress-free project for the maker and the pet owner!

Ready to Launch a Business?

Selecting an idea is just the beginning of the adventure! The most important thing is that your child has fun bringing their vision to life. If you’re ready to see your child’s confidence soar, we are here to help.

The Power of the Prototype: Why One is Better Than 100

When kids think about the Brevard Children’s Business Fair, they often start worrying about the "big numbers." They think, "I need to make 100 of these by fair day!" But before you buy a single bulk bin of supplies or spend hours at the workbench, there is one step you can’t skip: The Prototype.

What is a Prototype, Anyway?

In the professional business world, a prototype is just a "first draft." It is a preliminary model of an idea. For a young entrepreneur, a prototype is the version of the product where it is okay—and even encouraged—to be a little messy.

The goal of a prototype isn't to be perfect. The goal is to determine whether the idea works in practice. If your child wants to sell a new kind of desk organizer, they don't need to build it out of high-end wood yet. They just need to see if a pencil actually fits in the hole!

Why "Messy" is Good

Building a prototype saves two of your most valuable resources: time and money. * Spotting Mistakes Early: It’s much better to realize a design flaw on one cardboard version than on 50 finished products.

Testing the Size: Does it fit in a hand? Is it too heavy to carry around the Brevard Children’s Business Fair?

Low Pressure: When it’s just cardboard and tape, kids feel free to take risks and "fail fast" until they get it right.

Action Step: The "Junk Drawer" Challenge

This weekend, challenge your child to build a "Version 0.1" of their product using only things you already have around the house.

Gather these supplies:

  • Cardboard boxes

  • Duct tape or masking tape

  • Pipe cleaners or rubber bands

  • Empty plastic bottles

Have them build the shape and size of their product. Don't worry about colors or decorations yet. Just focus on how it feels to hold it and how it functions. Once they have a prototype they love, they’ll have the confidence to start the real production!
