From Shy to CEO: Emily's Inspiring Journey at the Brevard Children's Business Fair

Writer: N McFarlandN McFarland

Brevard Parents, are you ready to witness your child's incredible potential? The Brevard Children's Business Fair isn't just a market; it's a launchpad for young dreams! Today, BCBF is thrilled to share the inspiring journey of Emily from "Emily By Design," a seasoned fair participant, and her insightful mom. Their story highlights how this unique event fosters confidence, resilience, and real-world skills.

BCBF: "Emily, it's great to have you! Tell us about 'Emily By Design.' What inspired you to start your business, and what do you create?"

Emily: "A family friend inspired and taught me how to make my first pieces of jewelry when I was 9. I make bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and anklets."

BCBF: "That's wonderful! How has your business changed and grown since you first started at the fair in 2019?"

Emily: "I make better quality products now, have more variety, and I'm much more efficient with my time for making jewelry."

BCBF: "That's impressive growth! What's the most valuable lesson you've learned about running a business?"

Emily: "Never give up. You can always learn something new. It also opens up a whole new outlet for other opportunities."

BCBF: "Excellent advice! What advice would you give to other kids who are thinking about starting their own business?"

Emily: "Go for it! Also, some events might not be as successful as others, but stick with it as it's worth it in the end."

BCBF: "That's the spirit! Finally, what keeps you coming back to the fair each year?"

Emily: "Success, profit, and being a part of a community of young entrepreneurs and seeing them grow and succeed too."

BCBF: "Mom, thank you for joining us! What skills has Emily developed through running her business at the fair?"

Mom: "Emily has gained so much more self-confidence after years of participating in the fair. She runs her booth completely by herself. She doesn't want any help from Mom and Dad, and she speaks freely and comfortably with her customers. This is huge for Emily, as she was always so shy when she was younger. She has also learned so much about what it takes to start and run a business – cost, profit, importance of keeping stock available to sell at all times, making change, the benefits of donating to various charities, good customer service skills, how easy it is to start a business if you put your mind to it, and definitely how anything is possible if you try hard and stick with it."

BCBF: "That's incredible! How has the fair impacted Emily's confidence and self-esteem?"

Mom: "Huge gains in self-confidence and self-esteem. Emily was always so shy and afraid to talk to people she didn't know. Not anymore!!!"

BCBF: "That's truly heartwarming. Why do you think the Brevard Children's Business Fair is a valuable experience for young people?"

Mom: "I think it teaches so many valuable life lessons and shows the children how easy it is to start a business. We've watched Emily's journey evolve from simple and basic product making to more elaborate and sophisticated jewelry making. Adult customers genuinely love her creations and are in awe of what she is doing. I can honestly see this journey continuing into adulthood. It has also helped Emily to experience the benefits of charitable giving and making a difference in the lives of others."

Emily's experience is a powerful example of the fair's impact. It's about more than just making a profit; it's about personal transformation. The Brevard Children's Business Fair empowers kids to:

  • Discover their strengths: Overcoming shyness and building self-assurance.

  • Embrace challenges: Learning from setbacks and adapting strategies.

  • Develop crucial life skills: Financial literacy, communication, and problem-solving.

  • Experience the joy of achievement: Seeing their hard work pay off.

This fair creates a supportive environment where children can safely explore their entrepreneurial spirit and build a foundation for future success.

Give your child the gift of empowerment! The Brevard Children's Business Fair allows them to step outside their comfort zone and discover their hidden talents.

I first met Emily three years ago when she was helping her parents with a social function. She impressed me with her social skills, grace and friendliness even though she had just turned fourteen years old.

I later learned she made jewelry and shared some profits with charities which I found very impressive that such a young lady had developed into a role model that a lot of adults struggle to achieve.

Emily is an incredible young lady and I feel the sky is the limit for her future. Her parents have done an admirable job raising this young lady.
