What if your child’s favorite hobby could become their very first business? At the Brevard Children’s Business Fair (BCBF), we turn big dreams into small business reality. Imagine a place where kids become CEOs, where creativity meets commerce, and where young minds get to shine bright!

Whether your child has a secret recipe for lemonade, a talent for handmade crafts, or a brilliant tech invention, this fair is their stage. It is a one-day market where they can showcase their hard work and learn what it truly takes to be an entrepreneur.

Why the BCBF is More Than Just a Market

It’s one thing to talk about business in a classroom, but it’s another to handle a real $20 bill from a real customer. This fair is a unique opportunity to experience the "real world" in a supportive environment. Our young entrepreneurs walk away with:

  • Confidence: There is nothing like the pride of making your first sale!

  • Communication Skills: Kids learn to make eye contact with customers and explain why their product is special.

  • Money Management: From giving change to calculating profit, the math becomes real here.

  • Resilience: Sometimes things don't go as planned, and that’s where the best learning happens.

How to Prepare Your Young CEO

Getting ready for the fair is an exciting journey. While we finalize the location, your child can start their roadmap to success:

  1. Develop the Idea: Encourage your child to think about what they love. Is it a product (like custom jewelry) or a service (like gift wrapping)?

  2. Perfect the Product: Quality matters! Take time to make sure the product is durable and well-made.

  3. Set the Price: Help your child understand expenses. If it costs $2 in supplies to make an item, they need to charge enough to cover those costs and still make a profit.

  4. Design the Booth: Your booth is your "storefront." Use bright colors, clear signs, and a neat display to attract customers.

  5. Practice the Pitch: Have your child practice a 30-second "commercial" at the dinner table. What is the product? Why should someone buy it?

A Special Note for Parents

The most successful young entrepreneurs are those whose parents act as mentors, not managers. We encourage parents to:

  • Ask, Don't Tell: Instead of saying "Put the sign there," ask "Where do you think the customer will see the sign best?"

  • Be the Assistant: On fair day, let your child handle the money and the talking. You can be the "delivery driver" or the "restock clerk"!
